Aim
Stung Treng Women’s Development Center (SWDC) is a Cambodian based
humanitarian NGO focusing on developing life skills that assist in breaking
the cycle of poverty and illiteracy for vulnerable people, especially women,
in Stung Treng Province.
History & Philosophy
Established in 2002 by a Cambodian couple, SWDC supports a community that
deals with the challenges of poverty, low education, few employment
opportunities and geographical remoteness. SWDC aims to break the cycle of
poverty and improve living standards by offering programs in literacy and
health education, vocational training and employment.
Mekong Blue, the trading arm of SWDC, is making a name for itself as one of
the finest silk producers in Cambodia. The silk is known for its durable
weave and its traditional and contemporary colors and designs. The women are
producing silk products that are high quality, unique and UNESCO award
winners.
